The Enugu State Government has awarded scholarships to more than 760 residents under the 2025/2026 Local Scholarship Scheme as part of efforts to promote educational advancement and human capital development.
According to The Punch, the announcement was made on Tuesday by the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, Chukwuemeka Mbah, in a statement issued in Enugu.
According to Mbah, the beneficiaries were selected from the state’s 17 local government areas and cut across different academic disciplines.
The awardees include 500 undergraduate students, 100 postgraduate students, and 160 teachers in the public sector.
He explained that candidates who successfully passed the Computer-Based Test conducted for the programme have started receiving notifications via text messages and email for verification and documentation, which are being carried out according to local government areas.
Mbah noted that the scholarship initiative underscores Governor Peter Mbah’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities, empowering youths, and enhancing the capacity of the state’s workforce to support its development objectives.
He encouraged all successful applicants to promptly complete the verification process by responding to the messages sent to them.
“More beneficiaries will be captured in the next phase of the scholarship programme. It’s open to the people of Enugu State, and I want to urge our people to continue to apply.
“This is not the time to say you’re unable to get quality education because of funding. The governor has made it easy for our people to access free, quality education,” the statement added.
