Police launch homicide probe as Kogi teacher dies after alleged assault

The Kogi State Police Command has opened an investigation into the death of a primary school teacher who allegedly died after being attacked for disciplining a pupil in Olamaboro Local Government Area.

According to the police, the incident has been classified as a case of suspected culpable homicide following a report received at the Olamaboro Divisional Police Headquarters on June 25, 2026.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, said preliminary findings indicate that the incident occurred on June 18, when a man identified as Abdullahi Ishaka, accompanied by two women, allegedly entered Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka and assaulted 30-year-old teacher Maryam Usman over disciplinary action taken against a pupil.

“The victim suffered serious injuries during the attack. She was first treated at a medical facility in Ugbamaka before being referred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo for further treatment. Sadly, she passed away on June 25,” Afusat said.
