The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports suggesting that bandits are planning attacks on schools in the state, describing the claims as unverified and urging residents not to panic.
The clarification followed the circulation of a notice allegedly pasted in a school warning of a planned abduction of pupils by suspected bandits.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the command had investigated the matter and found no credible intelligence indicating an impending attack on any school or community in Lagos.
“There is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State. While every security concern is treated seriously, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic,” Adebisi said.
According to the police spokesperson, the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has directed an immediate security assessment and ordered increased surveillance around schools and other critical locations across the state.
The command stated that security personnel, working alongside other security agencies, have been deployed to strengthen protection around educational institutions, key infrastructure, and residential communities.
Reassuring parents, guardians, and school authorities, the police maintained that Lagos remains secure and that proactive measures are being implemented to safeguard residents.
“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents. Anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing fear or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
The police also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, noting that effective policing requires community participation.
Residents were encouraged to promptly report suspicious activities, movements, or individuals to the nearest police station or through the command’s designated emergency lines.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the continued safety of residents throughout Lagos State.
