The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the nationwide deployment of personnel and tactical teams to ensure a peaceful and secure Eid-el-Kabir celebration across Nigeria.
In a goodwill message marking the festive period, the police chief congratulated Muslims across the country and prayed for national peace, unity, and progress. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property during and after the celebrations.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, the IGP instructed Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders in all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify security operations in key public areas.
The planned security measures include strategic deployment of officers to Eid prayer grounds, major highways, motor parks, recreational centres, and other locations expected to experience heavy human movement during the festive period.
Intelligence-led surveillance, coordinated patrols, stop-and-search operations, and increased visibility policing were also emphasized as part of efforts to deter criminal activity.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to ensuring that citizens celebrate Eid-el-Kabir in a safe and peaceful environment,” the statement quoted the IGP as saying.
He also urged Nigerians to remain alert and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities promptly. “A timely report from a vigilant citizen can save lives,” he said, stressing that community cooperation is essential for maintaining security.
The police further encouraged the public to report unusual gatherings, unattended items, or suspicious individuals around Eid venues, markets, and transport hubs. Dedicated emergency lines were also released to enhance rapid response during the festive period.
The police assured citizens that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure swift response to any security threats, while reaffirming its readiness to maintain public safety throughout the holiday season.
