President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rangers International FC on their triumph in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League title, praising the club’s resilience, history, and consistency in Nigerian football.
In a statement released on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the achievement as the result of hard work, determination, and the club’s long-standing tradition of excellence.
Tinubu also reflected on Rangers’ rich football heritage, recalling their strong performances in the 1970s and 1980s, including their run to the 1975 African Cup of Champions Clubs final and their triumph in the 1977 African Cup Winners’ Cup.
“I must also congratulate Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on the victory of Rangers International FC. This victory is an obvious fruit of his administration’s investments in youth and sports in the state. I commend him.
“As one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, Rangers have produced some of the nation’s finest football players who went on to make the country proud on the global stage. I am proud of their achievement,” the President said.
Beyond celebrating the champions, the President also praised Rivers United FC for their strong performance throughout the season, noting their competitiveness and professionalism despite narrowly missing out on the title.
He commended Rivers United for an excellent campaign and for maintaining sportsmanship across the competition.
Tinubu further wished both Rangers International FC and Rivers United success as they prepare to represent Nigeria in next season’s CAF Champions League.
The Enugu-based club sealed the title after a 2-1 win over Ikorodu City FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, securing their ninth league crown and equalling Enyimba FC as the most successful sides in NPFL history.
The decisive match, played on the final day of the season, lived up to its billing as both teams fought intensely for the title.
Rangers ultimately emerged champions in a dramatic finish to one of the most closely contested NPFL seasons in recent years, while Rivers United ended the campaign in second place despite a convincing 3-0 win over Katsina United.
