TCN announces temporary power outage in Ibadan

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned power outage in parts of Ibadan, Oyo State, due to scheduled maintenance on a key transformer.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the outage followed the shutdown of a 100MVA 132/33kV transformer at the Ayede Transmission Substation for annual preventive maintenance.

According to her, the maintenance exercise is scheduled to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on May 5, 2026.

“The Transmission Company of Nigeria hereby notifies the public of scheduled maintenance of one of its 100MVA 132/33kV power transformers at the Ayede Transmission Substation,” Mbah said. “The exercise will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.”

She explained that the maintenance was necessary to ensure the facility continues to operate efficiently.

“This routine check will enable our engineers to keep the transformer in optimal working condition and sustain reliable power supply,” she added.

As a result of the shutdown, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in some areas, including Express, Industrial, and Oluyole districts during the maintenance window.

“Consequently, IBEDC will be unable to off-take electricity for customers in the affected areas within the stated period,” the statement noted.

TCN apologised to residents and businesses for the inconvenience, assuring that power supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance work.
