Abducted UNIJOS graduate, Arum regains freedom after two weeks in captivity

A graduate of the University of Jos, John Arum, who was abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Jos–Kaduna highway, has regained his freedom after spending about two weeks in captivity.

According to The PUNCH, Arum was reportedly travelling from Jos in Plateau State to Kaduna State when he was seized alongside six other passengers. During his time in captivity, disturbing videos showing him being brutalised circulated widely, sparking concern among the public.

His release was confirmed on Wednesday by the Global President of the University of Jos Alumni Association, Gad Shamaki, who described the development as a relief and a moment of gratitude.

“We are thankful to share that John Arum has been safely released and has reunited with his family,” Shamaki said.

“This is truly a moment of thanksgiving for all of us.”

He added that while Arum’s return is being celebrated, thoughts remain with others still in similar situations.

“As we celebrate, we must continue to pray for his full recovery—physically and emotionally. We also remember those who are still in captivity and hope for their safe return,” he stated.

Sources indicate that Arum has since returned home, though details about his medical condition have not been officially disclosed.
