Peter Okoye announces plan to change birth date

Nigerian music star, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has stirred conversations on social media after revealing his intention to change his birth date.

The singer made the announcement on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he wrote, “I am officially changing my birthday date.” He did not provide further details about the reason behind the decision, leaving fans speculating about what may have prompted the move.

Peter rose to prominence as one-half of the iconic music duo P-Square, alongside his twin brother, Paul Okoye.

The group dominated the African music scene in the late 2000s and early 2010s with several hit songs before internal disputes led to their breakup.

Their fallout, which became widely known around 2015, was linked to disagreements over management, particularly involving their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who handled the group’s affairs. Issues surrounding royalties, creative direction, and family involvement further deepened the rift.

By 2017, the duo had gone their separate ways, with Peter performing as Mr P and Paul adopting the stage name Rudeboy.

After years apart, the brothers reunited in November 2021, a development that excited fans across the continent.

They returned to performing together and released new music, although their comeback did not quite match the commercial success of their earlier years.

Despite the reconciliation, tensions reportedly resurfaced, with disputes over financial transparency and management structures.

Peter later raised concerns about alleged irregularities in their former business arrangements, leading to renewed public disagreements and legal battles within the family.
