The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has approved the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council, effectively relieving all commissioners of their duties.
The decision was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani. According to the statement, all affected commissioners have been directed to hand over the affairs of their ministries to permanent secretaries no later than Friday, April 3, 2026.
Tijani explained that the move is intended to create room for political participation ahead of the next general elections.
“The decision is to provide an enabling environment for any member of the council who may wish to contest elective positions in the forthcoming general elections,” he said.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the outgoing council members for their service and contributions to the development of the state.
“Governor Zulum commends the dedication and commitment of the commissioners and acknowledges their invaluable contributions to governance and service delivery in Borno State,” the statement added.
The development is seen as part of broader political realignments as preparations gradually intensify for the upcoming elections.
