Kano gov sacks investment commissioner

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has dismissed the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, directing him to vacate office with immediate effect.

The decision was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature.

According to the statement, the former commissioner has been instructed to hand over the ministry’s responsibilities to the Director of Commerce pending further directives from the state government.

The governor, however, acknowledged Sagagi’s contributions during his time in office, particularly in supporting small and medium-scale enterprises as well as his involvement in political and religious engagements.

“Governor Yusuf appreciates the services rendered by Sagagi and recognises his efforts in key areas, including support for SMEs and community engagement,” the statement read.

He also wished the former commissioner success in his future endeavours, reiterating his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the state.

The development is part of a broader restructuring within the Kano State government aimed at enhancing efficiency and promoting sustainable development.

Similarly, the governor recently removed the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, as part of ongoing reforms within the civil service. Musa was directed to transfer responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, Cabinet Office, Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, who is currently serving in an acting capacity.

The changes are unfolding amid shifting political dynamics in the state, following the governor’s move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the All Progressives Congress.
