The Nigerian Correctional Service has warned Nigerians against fraudulent schemes involving fake contract offers allegedly linked to the agency.
In a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, J.N. Osuji, the Service said scammers have been circulating a document titled “Payment/Mobilisation Request Form” to deceive unsuspecting individuals into making payments.
The agency categorically denied any connection to the document, stressing that it does not originate from the Service.
“The Service unequivocally states that this document did not emanate from us,” the statement said. “We strictly adhere to established Federal Government procedures and due process in all procurement and contract-related matters.”
The NCoS further clarified that it does not request or accept any form of upfront payment from contractors or individuals.
“At no time does the Service demand mobilisation fees, processing charges, or any financial inducement in relation to contracts,” it added.
According to the agency, fraudsters have also been impersonating senior officials on social media platforms, issuing fake offers and directing victims to pay money into private accounts.
Describing the acts as calculated attempts to exploit members of the public, the Service urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all information before engaging in any transaction.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard unsolicited contract offers from unverified sources and refrain from making payments for purported government approvals,” the statement warned.
The Service encouraged victims and those who encounter such scams to report immediately to law enforcement agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigeria Police Force.
It added that efforts are ongoing in collaboration with relevant authorities to track down and prosecute those behind the fraudulent activities.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and public safety, the NCoS emphasised the need for increased awareness to protect citizens from falling victim to scams.
