Nollywood actor Kunle Remi has sparked conversation online after contrasting the award presentation process at the Academy Awards with that of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
The actor shared his reaction on Instagram on Monday while responding to a viral video showing Michael B. Jordan receiving his Oscar statuette, with his name being engraved immediately after his win at the 2026 ceremony.
“So happy for MBJ. They engrave your name right there after you win, and you take it home! If na AMVCA, all of you would share one for the night and then come back to collect it next year,” Remi wrote.
Jordan recently won his first Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in the film Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler.
The Hollywood star portrayed dual roles as Smoke and Stack in the Southern Gothic horror film, which received multiple nominations at the 2026 Oscars. His victory also added him to the select group of Black actors who have won the Best Actor award in the Academy’s history.
In his acceptance speech, Jordan expressed gratitude to Coogler and honored Black film pioneers, including Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington, for paving the way for future generations.
Remi’s post also revived discussions among fans regarding his omission from the AMVCA Best Actor nomination list despite his acclaimed role as Saro in the film Anikulapo in 2023. Many were surprised by his absence from the category, given the praise his performance received.
At the time, Remi expressed appreciation to his supporters while congratulating colleagues who were nominated.
“First of all, congratulations to all my friends and colleagues. This year won’t be great without your amazing work and effort. God save una, cos if I dey the categories I for win (joke) before una say otherwise. Let the best man win,” he said.
Meanwhile, organizers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have closed submissions for the 12th edition, scheduled to take place in Lagos in May 2026.
