Europa: Moffi shines as Porto edge Stuttgart 2-1

Terem Moffi delivered a decisive performance as Porto secured a valuable 2-1 win over VfB Stuttgart in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 clash, giving the Portuguese side a strong advantage ahead of the return leg.

The Nigerian striker proved to be the difference-maker on the night, spearheading Porto’s attack with energy and precision as the visitors produced a disciplined display away from home.

Stuttgart began the contest at a high tempo, pressing aggressively in front of their supporters in search of an early breakthrough. However, Porto remained composed under pressure and eventually turned the momentum in their favour.

Their patience paid off in the 21st minute when a swift midfield transition created space for a dangerous attacking move. Moffi combined neatly with Spanish winger Borja Sainz just outside the penalty area.

After exchanging a quick one-two, the Nigerian forward fired a powerful low strike with his right foot that beat the Stuttgart goalkeeper and nestled into the bottom corner.

Porto extended their advantage before the hour mark after capitalizing on a defensive mistake by the hosts, putting the visitors firmly in control of the tie.

Although Stuttgart managed to pull one goal back late in the game to keep their hopes alive, Porto’s well-organized defense held firm to ensure they left Germany with a crucial first-leg lead.

Moffi’s influence went beyond his goal. The forward earned an impressive 7.7 match rating after completing 80 percent of his passes and winning several key aerial duels, offering Porto a reliable attacking outlet against Stuttgart’s physical defense.
