The Nigeria Police Force has stated that its investigation found no evidence to support allegations that the Minister of Interior, Olubumi Tunji-Ojo, forged his National Youth Service Corps certificate.
The clarification followed claims and protests in some parts of the country, where individuals called on authorities to probe accusations that the minister falsified both his West African Examinations Council secondary school certificate and his NYSC certificate.
Responding to inquiries on the matter, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police conducted a thorough probe into the allegations and discovered that they were baseless.
He said, “After an exhaustive investigation into the allegations, it has been established that there is no evidence whatsoever of forgery, altercation, falsification or unlawful production of the minister’s NYSC certificate.”
He added that the police contacted the NYSC for verification, which confirmed the authenticity of the certificate.
“The NYSC was contacted and it was verified that the certificate was duly issued by the corps to the minister. The allegations are therefore unfounded.”
Earlier this year, the West African Examinations Council had also addressed similar claims regarding the minister’s academic credentials.
In January, WAEC confirmed the authenticity of Tunji-Ojo’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination result following allegations of forgery.
The attestation certificate issued by WAEC contains the minister’s full name, date of birth, embossed photograph, original certificate number and official authentication markings.
The document, titled Attestation of Results, states, “Tunji-Ojo attended the Staff Secondary School at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and sat for the Senior Secondary School Examination in June 1999.”
According to the result details, the minister obtained B3 in Economics, B2 in Mathematics, A1 in Agricultural Science, B3 in Biology, C6 in Chemistry, C6 in English Language, A1 in Yoruba Language, C6 in Further Mathematics, and B3 in Physics.
