Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has voiced her frustration over the decision by the Confederation of African Football to postpone the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
CAF confirmed on Thursday that the tournament, which was initially scheduled to kick off in Morocco on March 17, will no longer hold as planned and has been shifted to July 2026.
According to the continent’s football governing body, the postponement was due to unforeseen circumstances.
Before the announcement, most of the 16 nations that qualified for the tournament had already begun preparations and arranged friendly matches during the latest international window.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons were among the teams that stepped up their build-up, playing two friendly matches against the Cameroon women’s national football team.
Reacting to the development, Ajibade took to social media to share her displeasure with the decision.
“African women’s football deserves better,” Ajibade posted on X with an emoji of disappointment.
The 2026 WAFCON tournament is now scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 16, although CAF has yet to officially confirm the host nation.
