The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four persons along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital, noting that security operatives had commenced coordinated efforts to rescue the victims.
According to him, the incident was reported to the command, prompting immediate action from the Commissioner of Police, who directed officers in the affected divisions to intensify rescue operations.
“Four persons have been confirmed abducted along the Igbeti–Kishi Road,” Ayanlade said.
He explained that the Commissioner of Police promptly ordered Divisional Police Officers in Kishi and Igbeti divisions, alongside other tactical teams, to deploy available resources to secure the victims’ safe release and apprehend those responsible.
“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officers in Kishi and Igbeti, supported by tactical units, to deploy all necessary operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators,” he stated.
Ayanlade added that security operatives were currently combing nearby communities and intensifying intelligence gathering to track down the kidnappers.
“Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with security personnel combing surrounding areas and strengthening intelligence efforts to locate the suspects,” he said.
The police spokesperson assured residents that the command remained committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
“The command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urges members of the public to remain calm while providing any useful information that could support ongoing operations,” he added.
Meanwhile, the police command recently foiled a planned attack by suspected bandits in Elebe Village, Aleniboro, located in Atisbo Local Government Area. Two suspects were reportedly killed during the operation following a tip-off from a resident who alerted security agencies about the presence of armed men in a nearby farm settlement.
In a separate incident, the police also thwarted a kidnap attempt at Olorunda Village in Ojongbodu, Oyo West Local Government Area, rescuing a victim identified as Haruna Lawal, who sustained a head injury during the attack.
