The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja ahead of his decoration by Bola Tinubu.
Disu, who was appointed on Tuesday, previously served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon.
He was accompanied by members of his family for the ceremony conferring on him the rank of Inspector-General of Police.
In line with the provisions of the Police Act 2020, President Tinubu is expected to convene a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council to formally deliberate on Disu’s appointment as the substantive Inspector-General of Police.
Following the council’s consideration, his nomination will be forwarded to the Senate for confirmation.
His appointment comes after the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reportedly resigned, citing pressing family considerations.
President Tinubu had earlier accepted Egbetokun’s resignation and commended him for his years of dedicated service to the Nigeria Police Force and the country.
The President praised his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to reinforcing the nation’s internal security framework throughout his tenure.
Tinubu also expressed confidence that Disu’s wealth of experience, operational expertise, and proven leadership qualities would ensure stable and purposeful leadership of the Nigeria Police Force at this crucial time.
As stipulated by the Police Act 2020, the President will soon convene the Nigeria Police Council to formally consider Disu’s appointment before transmitting his name to the Senate for confirmation.
