The announcement came in a statement released just before midnight on Wednesday, signed by J. Okor Odey, Head of Media and Public Communications and Spokesperson for the Commission.

“The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) writes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai the former Governor of Kaduna state is in our custody. Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with investigations,” Odey said.

This development arises amid ongoing probes into alleged financial transactions and projects carried out during El-Rufai’s tenure as Kaduna State Governor from 2015 to 2023.

Previously, the former governor was questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in connection with purported financial dealings reportedly amounting to N432 billion.

While the EFCC has not officially released information on the specifics of its inquiry, sources indicated that the questioning was part of a wider anti-corruption review.
