Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has extended heartfelt Ramadan greetings to Muslims in the state, across Nigeria, and around the world.
Describing the holy month as a time for spiritual renewal, discipline, sacrifice, and compassion, Governor Zulum emphasized that fasting involves more than abstaining from food and drink. It serves to purify the heart, strengthen faith, and encourage acts of kindness toward the less fortunate.
According to the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum urged Muslims to devote the month to increased worship, sincere supplication, and charitable giving.
He highlighted that Ramadan fosters unity by reinforcing Islam’s teachings on peace, tolerance, and mutual respect.
Governor Zulum also observed that this year’s Ramadan coincides with ongoing peace in Borno and a bumper harvest from last year’s agricultural season.
On Tuesday, he inaugurated the distribution of Ramadan palliatives to 300,000 households across all 27 local government areas, aimed at easing economic burdens on vulnerable residents.
The initiative will also benefit Christians observing Lent, which overlaps with the Ramadan fast.
Reflecting on Borno’s recovery from insurgency over the past 15 years, the Governor praised the resilience and sacrifices of the people.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring security, rebuilding destroyed communities, resettling displaced families, and reviving livelihoods.
“Our government remains focused on consolidating security gains through collaboration with the Federal Government and security agencies. We are rebuilding schools, hospitals, roads, and markets, and supporting farmers, traders, and youth to restore economic activities in liberated communities,” Zulum stated.
He stressed that, despite the progress made in reconstruction and rehabilitation, unity and collective prayers remain essential for sustaining peace and stability in Borno and across Nigeria.
He called on the Muslim Ummah to dedicate Ramadan to prayers for lasting peace, security, prosperity, and national cohesion, urging citizens to support vulnerable families, widows, orphans, and those affected by the insurgency.
Zulum also extended greetings to the Christian community on the start of Lent, emphasizing that the concurrent observance of both religious periods highlights the importance of unity, peaceful coexistence, and collective action.
He prayed that Almighty Allah accepts the fast, supplication, and good deeds, and blesses Borno State and Nigeria with enduring peace and development.
