The convention, which produced Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as PDP National Chairman along with other party officers, has been at the centre of legal battles over its legality.

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has urged balanced Christian participation in the 2027 elections while opposing calls for the removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan.

PFN President, Bishop Wale Oke, made the position known on Thursday during a press conference at the Fellowship’s Lagos headquarters.

He emphasized that while the Fellowship would prefer a Christian vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, it respects the political prerogatives of the President.

“The President is a politician; we are not. His calculus is different from ours. What he knows in the political realm, we don’t know; just as what we know in the spiritual realm, he doesn’t know. So we do not venture to dictate to him,” Oke said.

Oke added that the PFN represents over 65 million Christians and urged fairness and inclusivity in political appointments.

“There are capable Christians in every geopolitical zone of Nigeria, out of which the President can pick a vice president. That would be a balanced approach,” he said.

On the controversy surrounding the INEC chairman, PFN National Deputy President, Dr. Cosmas Ilechukwu, defended Amupitan’s right to contribute to national discourse.

“We do not support any calls for the removal of INEC’s chairman. He is a citizen of Nigeria with the right to express his views, and we must respect his opinion,” he said.

The PFN leaders also called for stronger government action against terrorism, praising the partnership between Nigeria and the United States in combating insecurity.

Bishop Oke said, “We commend the Federal Government’s efforts and pray for them to redouble their actions to protect lives and property.”
