Bayern Munich booked their spot in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals for the first time since 2020, overcoming two-time champions RB Leipzig 2-0 at the Allianz Arena, marking their third victory over Die Roten Bullen this season.
The Bavarians are chasing their first Pokal triumph in six years, their longest trophy drought since a 12-year wait that ended in 1998.
Early on, it seemed that streak might continue. Yan Diomande’s dazzling solo run set up Christoph Baumgartner for a neat finish, only for the goal to be ruled out after a VAR offside check.
Bayern responded with intensity. Harry Kane’s first attempt was brilliantly blocked by Castello Lukeba, and his follow-up volley from Michael Olise’s cross sailed wide.
Both teams enjoyed chances before the break, with David Raum and Aleksandar Pavlovic forcing key saves from the opposing goalkeepers.
After the interval, Maarten Vandevoordt kept Leipzig in the game with a string of stops, including denying Serge Gnabry.
However, his heroics ended shortly after the hour mark when he fouled an onrushing Josip Stanisic in the box. Kane calmly converted the penalty into the bottom corner, rewarding his relentless display.
Bayern doubled their lead minutes later, with Luis Diaz racing behind the defense to finish Olise’s pass into the net.
Despite Leipzig’s efforts to fight back, Der Rekordmeister maintained control, extending their unbeaten run against Leipzig to seven games.
With this win, Bayern’s treble ambitions remain alive, while Leipzig, although showing signs of improvement compared to their earlier heavy defeats, will have to wait at least another year to defend their 2022 and 2023 DFB-Pokal titles.
