Kwara gov meets security chiefs over deadly Kaiama LG attack

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has convened an emergency security council meeting with heads of security agencies in the state following a recent attack in Kaiama Local Government Area that reportedly claimed many lives.

The meeting, held on Monday night at the Ahmadu Bello House in Ilorin, brought together top security commanders to review the situation and strengthen coordinated responses to emerging threats across the state.

Speaking after the closed-door meeting, the governor said the engagement was part of a broader strategy to address security challenges and protect residents of the state.

“As part of our multi-layered response to the recent terrorist attack in Kaiama Local Government Area, I convened an emergency security council meeting today,” AbdulRazaq said.

He explained that security chiefs briefed him on developments in the affected communities and outlined steps being taken to prevent further violence.

“I received briefings from all the security commanders in the state, and we jointly discussed strategies to neutralise threats, secure lives and safeguard property,” the governor added.

AbdulRazaq expressed confidence that the resolutions reached at the meeting would help stabilise the security situation and restore peace in vulnerable areas.

“I am confident that the outcome of our deliberations will strengthen security operations and help restore calm across our communities,” he said.

The emergency meeting followed heightened security operations in parts of Kwara State after coordinated attacks were reported in Kaiama and neighbouring areas. Security agencies have since increased patrols and deployed personnel to forest corridors believed to serve as hideouts for armed groups.

The governor’s meeting with security chiefs is aimed at enhancing intelligence sharing, inter-agency collaboration and rapid response mechanisms to prevent further attacks, particularly in rural communities.

Meanwhile, Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Usman Ododo of Kogi and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti had earlier visited victims of a recent attack in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area, who are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Ilorin.

Speaking during the visit, Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, described the incident as unfortunate and expressed solidarity with the Kwara State Government and affected communities.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Kwara State over this unfortunate incident,” Oyebanji said.

“We also commend the Federal Government and security agencies for their swift response. The victims are stable, but they remain under close medical observation.”

He added that the three states would continue to strengthen collaboration to tackle cross-border criminal activities threatening peace and security in the region.
