WWCQ: Falconets vow to protect lead against Senegal

Falconets head coach, Moses Aduku, has vowed that his team will go all out to secure qualification for the final round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria edged Senegal 1-0 in a tightly contested first-leg encounter at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Saturday.

Substitute Kindness Ifeanyi proved to be the difference, heading home the decisive goal in the 50th minute.

The result gives the Falconets a slim advantage, with a draw in the return leg enough to see them through to the final qualifying round.

Speaking after the match, Aduku said his team would approach the second leg with a clear attacking plan rather than sitting back to defend their lead.

“We are not going there to sit back and defend; that would be dangerous. We will do our best to score first and then build on that,” he said at the post-match press conference.

“They fought well, but we know we have the quality to beat them. It will be the same thing in the second leg.”

Aduku also praised his players for their determination in the first leg, describing the victory as a hard-earned one.

“It was a tough one for us, but the good thing is that we have the advantage going into the second leg,” he added.

“I must commend my players because they fought hard for this win. We will now settle down and prepare for the second leg. It is important to double our effort.”

The decisive return fixture is scheduled for Saturday, December 14, in Dakar.
