Fenerbahçe’s goalkeeper Ederson produced a string of brilliant saves to help his side secure a 1-1 draw against FCSB in Romania, a result that saw the hosts eliminated from the UEFA Europa League.
The Turkish visitors, already assured of a top-24 finish, started strongly. Talisca’s thunderous attempt narrowly missed the target, signaling an early warning.
On the other end, Dennis Politic saw his near-post strike expertly saved, and Youssef En-Nesyri then forced FCSB’s Ștefan Târnovanu into a stunning stop.
However, the resulting corner proved costly for the Romanian side, as İsmail Yüksek powered a header home from close range to give Fenerbahçe the lead.
That goal finally sparked FCSB into life, aware that only a win would keep their play-off hopes alive. The Romanian side created a flurry of opportunities, but each time Ederson was equal to the task, producing three top-class saves from Darius Olaru, David Miculescu, and Mert Müldür.
His standout moment came when he dived sharply to his right to keep out a fierce effort from Mamadou Thiam.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Olaru found himself in a one-on-one situation, yet Ederson once again denied him, aiming to secure his third away clean sheet of the Europa League season.
As FCSB’s urgency increased, they made a series of attacking substitutions, and the gamble paid off.
Substitute Juri Cisotti found the equaliser with 19 minutes remaining, finishing from close range after a precise cross from Risto Radunović.
The momentum swung in favour of the hosts, with Thiam sending a powerful volley just over the bar.
Fenerbahçe were undeterred, though, as Kerem Aktürkoğlu’s low drive narrowly missed, and Marco Asensio’s late strike was also denied.
Ederson capped off his remarkable display with one more world-class save, leaping high to stop Mihai Lixandru.
In the end, the match finished 1-1. The draw meant FCSB’s Europa League journey came to an end, while Fenerbahçe missed out on a guaranteed seeded play-off spot.
