The Kogi State Police Command has appointed an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Saliu Oyiza, as its new Public Relations Officer, making her the first woman to occupy the position in the state.
She takes over from William Aya, who served as the command’s spokesperson for about a decade.
Speaking on Monday at the command headquarters, Aya expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for the opportunity to serve and called on journalists and stakeholders to support his successor.
“I have had the privilege of serving as the spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command since 2015. I am confident that ASP Oyiza will further strengthen the image of the Force and sustain a healthy relationship with the public,” Aya said.
“I also urge members of the media to extend the same cooperation they gave me to her, so that she can succeed in this assignment,” he added.
In her acceptance remarks, Oyiza thanked her predecessor and pledged to uphold professionalism in the discharge of her duties.
“I am grateful for the confidence reposed in me, and I appreciate the groundwork already laid by my predecessor. I will build on this legacy to ensure effective communication between the police and the people of Kogi State,” she said.
The outgoing spokesperson, Aya, was also honoured with an Award of Excellence by the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State chapter, in recognition of his service to the state.
