KWAM 1 drops court case challenging Awujale succession

Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, has formally withdrawn his lawsuit challenging the ongoing process to select the next Awujale of Ijebuland.

The singer had initiated the legal action at the Ogun State High Court sitting in the Ijebu-Ode judicial division, seeking to halt all steps leading to the nomination and installation of a new Awujale.

However, the suit has now been brought to an end following a notice of discontinuance filed at the court.
KWAM 1 had approached the court on December 16, asking for an injunction to stop the succession process.

The case listed several respondents, including the Ogun State governor, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, as well as the attorney general and commissioner for justice.

In a notice dated Monday, December 22, and filed by his legal team led by Wahab Shittu, the Fuji star officially discontinued the case.

“Take notice that the Claimant/Applicant herein wholly discontinues the above suit against the Defendant/Respondent pursuant to Order 23 of the High Court of Ogun State (Civil Procedure) Rules 2024 and under the inherent jurisdiction of this Court,” the notice reads.

Explaining the reason for the withdrawal, KWAM 1 stated that the suit was instituted based on correspondences from the second respondent dated December 2, 2025, which have since been withdrawn.

“The Applicant respectfully prays that the Court record the discontinuance of this suit and make such orders as it deems fit,” the notice added.
