The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Yu Dunhai, has reiterated Beijing’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s security operations and economic transformation initiatives during a high-level engagement with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar.
In a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Abuja on Wednesday, Yu highlighted that the China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership is now “on the fast track,” strengthened by deep political confidence and continuous cooperation between both nations.
He explained that the Recommendations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan underscore the country’s resolve to enhance high-standard opening-up while extending shared development benefits across the world, including Nigeria.
Yu emphasised that China and Nigeria have always backed one another on fundamental national concerns and assured that China would maintain its support for Nigeria in fighting terrorism and enhancing national security.
The envoy further said China is willing to collaborate with Nigeria on the implementation of zero-tariff policies on Nigerian exports, and to advance preparations for the commemoration of 55 years of diplomatic relations in 2026, coinciding with the China-Africa Year of Cultural Exchanges.
“These efforts will further consolidate strategic mutual trust, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and deliver greater benefits to the peoples of both nations,” Yu said.
Amb. Tuggar, in his response, reaffirmed Nigeria’s loyalty to the one-China principle and described China as the country’s comprehensive strategic partner.
He praised China’s continued role in driving Nigeria’s socio-economic development and declared the government’s readiness to deepen synergy in development plans, broaden cooperation in manufacturing, investment and trade, and further enhance bilateral relations.
