The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that the physical, in-person continuous voter registration exercise in Yobe State’s 17 local government areas will conclude on December 10.
The state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued in Damaturu on Wednesday.
He further explained that the preliminary register of voters will be displayed for claims and objections over a seven-day period, running from December 15 to December 21.
Abdullahi said this period will allow registrants to correct any errors in their biodata, including names, wards, and National Identification Numbers.
“The claims and objections will enable the registrants to correct errors on their biodata, including names, wards, and National Identification Numbers (NIN),” he added.
The REC also stated that December 21 has been earmarked for addressing complaints arising from the claims and objections.
Looking ahead, Abdullahi revealed that the second phase of the in-person continuous voter registration will commence on January 5, 2026.
He recalled that the registration exercise started online on August 18, a week prior to the launch of the in-person registration on August 25.
Abdullahi emphasized the importance of voter registration, noting that producing an accurate register is essential for the electoral process.
“Registration of voters and production of an accurate register are fundamental and critical requirements of the electoral system. They are also primary functions of the Independent National Electoral Commission,” he said.
He added, “Section 10 of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended) mandates the Commission to conduct the registration of voters on a continuous basis.”
