The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has uncovered a new tactic used by drug traffickers, who now conceal illicit substances inside what look like regular flight boarding passes.
The discovery was announced on Sunday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement published on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to Babafemi, operatives in Lagos intercepted packages containing substances such as “Colos” cleverly hidden within laminated boarding-pass–styled cards.
He noted that the syndicates behind the act are increasingly adopting innovative packaging methods to avoid detection.
“These may appear as ordinary flight boarding passes but neatly concealed in them are dangerous substances such as Colos,” Babafemi wrote.
“This is one of the new methods of distributing illicit drugs in cities as uncovered by NDLEA operatives in Lagos.”
He urged parents and guardians to be vigilant, especially regarding items delivered by dispatch riders, warning that traffickers often use unsuspecting young people as receivers of these packages.
“This is another wake-up call to parents and guardians to pay attention to what dispatch riders are delivering to their children and wards,” he added.
“The merchants of death are getting more disingenuous with their packaging, but the NDLEA is surely steps ahead of them.”
The agency reiterated its commitment to staying ahead of criminal networks and preventing dangerous substances from reaching the public.
