Osimhen eases injury fears after Galatasaray return

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, is set to undergo an MRI scan after touching down in Istanbul on Tuesday, following concerns over an injury picked up on international duty.

The Nigerian forward was taken off at half-time during Nigeria’s defeat to DR Congo in the final of the 2026 World Cup African play-offs on Sunday.

Initial fears suggested a hamstring issue, prompting his substitution to avoid further damage.

Multiple Turkish outlets revealed that Galatasaray dispatched a private jet to bring Osimhen back for assessment, with the scan expected to determine the severity of the problem.

Turkish journalist Haluk Yürekli noted that the club are cautiously optimistic.

“Galatasaray officials spoke with Osimhen on Monday about the injury issue, and what Osimhen said is that it doesn’t seem very serious. That’s his expectation,” Yürekli said via Forza Climbom, a Turkish football platform on X.

Upon his arrival, Osimhen also reassured reporters, stating, “It’s not serious,” when asked about his condition.

Despite that optimism, the forward is still expected to miss Galatasaray’s Süper Lig fixture against Gençlerbirliği on Saturday and remains a doubt for their Champions League clash with Union SG next Tuesday.

Another Turkish reporter, Ali Naci Küçük, hinted that Osimhen’s rehabilitation could take around 10 days, with Galatasaray hopeful he may return in time for the crucial derby against Fenerbahçe on Monday, December 1.

“The part I mentioned as ‘10 per cent for Osimhen’ is the possibility of him being in the expanded squad for the Fenerbahçe match. If we assume the best-case scenario of bleeding in his hamstring, the treatment will take 10 days,” Küçük explained, as quoted by Forza Climbom.

Osimhen has been in superb form this season, scoring nine goals in 12 matches. He recently netted a Champions League hat-trick against Ajax, propelling Galatasaray into ninth place in the league phase and keeping them a point above Fenerbahçe in the Süper Lig title race.

The 27-year-old completed a permanent move to Galatasaray in the summer after a prolific 2024/25 loan spell, during which he scored 37 goals in 41 appearances.
