Turkish giants, Fenerbahce, were held to a 0-0 draw by Czech side Viktoria Plzen in Week 4 of the UEFA Europa League, earning just one point.
The match at Mesta Stadium saw Fenerbahce struggle to create chances in the first half, while Plzen threatened on several occasions but were kept at bay.
Fenerbahce’s best moment came in the 40th minute when Youssef En-Nesyri went one-on-one with the goalkeeper but failed to score.
The second half mirrored the first, prompting coach Domenico Tedesco to make three substitutions in the 60th minute, Jhon Duran replaced En-Nesyri, Fred came on for Ismail Yuksek, and Marco Asensio took over from Oguz Aydin.
Despite holding 60% possession, Fenerbahce struggled to convert their opportunities, recording 10 shots with 4 on target, compared to Plzen’s 18 attempts with 6 on goal.
Fenerbahce’s expected goals (xG) was slightly higher at 1.27 against Plzen’s 1.03, but they missed three clear chances, while Plzen missed only one.
After the match, Tedesco acknowledged the team’s missed opportunities but praised their defensive performance.
“We must accept this result. We are returning with one point; we could have won, but we could have also lost,” he said, highlighting the development of players like Jhon Duran and emphasizing the importance of managing fatigue and suspensions.
Fenerbahce will next face Ferencvaros at home on November 27. Midfielder Ismail Yuksek and center-back Jayden Oosterwolde, both booked in this match, will miss the next game due to suspension.
Fenerbahce are currently 15th in their Europa League group with 7 points, while Viktoria Plzen sit 8th with 8 points.
