Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has directed the Israeli military to launch “immediate, powerful” strikes in Gaza, his office confirmed on Tuesday.
“At the conclusion of the security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the military echelon to carry out immediate, powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip,” the statement from his office read.
Earlier on Tuesday, Netanyahu’s team accused Hamas of breaching the Gaza ceasefire by returning remains to Israel that did not belong to any of the 13 hostages still missing from the enclave.
Following this, Hamas’ armed wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, said it would delay the handover of a recovered hostage’s body in southern Gaza due to Israel’s “violations.”
Meanwhile, an Israeli military official told CNN that Hamas had launched an attack on Israel Defense Forces troops stationed in an area under Israeli control east of the yellow line, which marks the point of Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza under the US-mediated ceasefire.
