The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector General of Police Dankwara Mohammed as the new Deputy Inspector General to represent the North-East geopolitical zone.
Mohammed’s appointment follows the retirement of DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, who recently exited the Force after years of meritorious service.
In a statement issued on Friday by the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the Commission also announced the promotion of several senior officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force.
According to Ani, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Abibo Deinma Reuben has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), while 11 Deputy Commissioners of Police were elevated to the substantive rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).
“The Commission also approved the promotion of CP Abibo Deinma Reuben from the rank of Commissioner to the next rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police,” the statement read in part.
Those promoted to CP include Naziru Bello Kankarofi, Nendel Joseph Gomwalk, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, Morkwap Dongshal, Abdullateef Ajape Yusuf, Cletus Nwadiogbu (Finance and Administration, Taraba State), Ahmed Mohammed Bello, Abdulraheem Nurudeen, Patrick Daaor, and Umar Mohammed Hadejia.
Additionally, 13 Assistant Commissioners were promoted to Deputy Commissioners, 44 Chief Superintendents advanced to Assistant Commissioners, and 412 Superintendents were elevated to Chief Superintendents. Several Deputy Superintendents were also confirmed as substantive Superintendents.
Reacting to the development, PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd), congratulated the newly promoted officers and charged them to demonstrate renewed commitment to national service.
“Promotion in the police is not just a reward but a call to higher responsibility,” Argungu said. “The Commission expects the officers to justify their new ranks through integrity, discipline, and dedication to duty.”
He reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to reward hard work and professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force, adding that promotions are based on merit and performance.
