RSF strikes kill 60 in besieged Sudanese city

At least 60 people were killed between Friday night and Saturday morning after drone and artillery strikes launched by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, hit a shelter in the besieged city of Al-Fashir, local activists have reported.

The RSF has laid siege to Al-Fashir in its ongoing attempt to seize the army’s final stronghold in the Darfur region, a blockade that has fueled widespread hunger, disease, and devastation.

Continuous bombardments from drones and artillery have struck shelters for displaced persons, mosques, hospitals, and clinics.

“Bodies remain under the rubble, and others were burned alive inside the shelter caravans, children, women, and elderly killed in cold blood,” the Al-Fashir Resistance Committees said in a statement earlier on Saturday.

In an update later in the day, the group revealed that the shelter had been targeted twice by drones and eight times by artillery shells.

According to the resistance committee, hundreds of civilians have died in the attacks so far, while residents told Reuters they have resorted to digging bunkers in their homes and neighborhoods to stay alive.

The activist group further reported that the city is losing about 30 people every day to violence, hunger, and disease.
