The Nigerian naira closed the week on a positive note, appreciating to ₦1,487.90/$1 at the official market and ₦1,522/$1 at the parallel market on Friday, marking one of its strongest performances in recent weeks.
According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria), the currency firmed up by ₦11.08 day-on-day at the official window, rising from ₦1,498.98/$1 recorded on Thursday.
In the black market, it appreciated by ₦15, improving from Thursday’s ₦1,537/$1.
The surge reflects a major rebound from the midweek downtrend, with the naira gaining ₦3.9 on a week-on-week basis, compared to the ₦1,501.50/$1 it traded last Friday.
Fresh CBN data also revealed that Nigeria’s external reserves climbed to $41.99 billion as of September 18, 2025, strengthening the country’s foreign exchange buffers and further boosting market confidence.
Analysts attribute the rebound to improved dollar inflows from oil earnings, tight monetary measures by the CBN, and renewed interest from foreign investors. For businesses and households, the rally offers much-needed relief after weeks of volatility.
With this strong close to the week, all eyes are now on whether the apex bank can sustain the momentum and keep the naira stable across FX markets in the coming days.
