148 Nigerian migrants repatriated from Sudan

The National Emergency Management Agency on Friday received 148 Nigerian returnees who were evacuated from Sudan amid the ongoing conflict in the country.

According to NEMA’s Kano Operations Office, the migrants landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport around 2:30 p.m. aboard a chartered Tarco Aviation flight.

The returnees comprised 25 men, 27 women, 39 boys, and 57 girls.

NEMA spokesperson in Kano explained that the group was taken to Chila Hotel in Kano for documentation and profiling by relevant agencies.

“The returnees were not placed on any reintegration programme. They were discharged after profiling and documentation, and each of them was given transport fare through ATM cards to enable them to continue their journey home,” the statement read.

The agency described the exercise as “well-coordinated and successfully executed,” adding that it was part of ongoing efforts to support Nigerians caught in crises abroad.

The development comes as violence in Sudan continues to displace millions, putting immense strain on the country’s infrastructure and sparking humanitarian concerns.

NEMA also noted its collaboration with both local and international partners to provide assistance to Nigerians in distress abroad.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, it added, has been working closely with stakeholders to rescue and rehabilitate victims of human trafficking in regions such as Libya.

A NEMA official emphasized: “Our priority remains the safety and dignity of every Nigerian stranded in conflict zones. We will continue to coordinate with government agencies and international partners to ensure they are not abandoned.”
