Troops kill eight suspected ISWAP terrorists in Borno

The Nigerian Army has reported that troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, successfully neutralised eight members of the Islamic State West Africa Province in Borno State.

A credible military source told the News Agency of Nigeria that the clash occurred in the early hours of Monday when troops were ambushed near Garin Giwa along the Baga–Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route.

The source explained that the terrorists, who attempted to disrupt military operations in the area, were met with strong resistance from the troops.

He said eight ISWAP fighters were killed during the encounter, including two Munzirs and one Qaid.

“The identified fighters include Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, another unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota.

“Several others sustained gunshot wounds, particularly those who fled on foot, abandoning 14 motorcycles which were recovered by troops,” he said.

The source added that the seizure of the motorcycles had further undermined the insurgents’ logistics and mobility in the region.

He also affirmed that the Theatre Command remained committed to eliminating terrorism in the North East and restoring peace to affected communities, while the military high command praised the troops for their achievement.
