The Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, has destroyed a militia base linked to the Eastern Security Network and the Indigenous People of Biafra in Aguluezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation was carried out in the early hours of September 2, 2025, and lasted several hours.

The camp was dislodged, while several suspects escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Anambra Police-led Joint Security Force, comprising troops from the 302 Artillery Regiment, 14 Field Engineer Regiment, operatives of the Department of State Services, and Anambra State Vigilante, conducted a coordinated operation at the ESN/IPOB camp.

The camp was destroyed, and several dangerous items were recovered,” Ikenga said.

He added that a white Lexus 470 SUV and several Improvised Explosive Devices were seized during the raid.

“The area has been stabilised and remains calm. Monitoring is ongoing to ensure the safety of residents and to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The Anambra State Police Command reassures Ndi Anambra of its commitment to fighting criminality and restoring peace across the state,” the police spokesperson stated.

The operation in Anambra follows a similar security clampdown in Imo State, where the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police Command recently uncovered another IPOB/ESN camp in Nempi, Oru West Local Government Area. That raid led to the arrest of 29 suspects, including four women, and the recovery of firearms, live ammunition, bulletproof charms, and a Point of Sale machine allegedly used by the group.

Police authorities have urged residents to remain calm and support security agencies with useful information to sustain efforts at restoring peace in the region.
