Akanji names Inter biggest Serie A club after Milan snub

Swiss defender, Manuel Akanji, has officially joined Inter Milan, calling the Serie A giants “the biggest club in Italy and one of the best in the world.”

The 30-year-old arrives at San Siro on a season-long loan, with Inter retaining an option to make the move permanent, an obligation that will activate if certain conditions are fulfilled.

Akanji, who had previously been linked with AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, and Crystal Palace, finalized his transfer on the final day of the summer window, becoming Christian Chivu’s seventh signing of the season.

Speaking to Inter’s official website, Akanji explained that joining the Nerazzurri was an easy decision.

“It will definitely be different from the Premier League, even the Bundesliga was different. I still don’t know what it’s like as a player, but I’ve seen a lot of games and I like it a lot, which is also why I made this decision.

“I can’t wait to start with (coach Cristian) Chivu, to meet him and understand what kind of playing ideas he has in mind.

“For me, Inter is the biggest club in Italy and one of the best in the world. They’ve proven that in recent years. It was very easy to choose this club.”
