Yorke urges Man Utd to sign Aston Villa goalie

Former Manchester United striker, Dwight Yorke,.has suggested that the Red Devils target Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez if they want to address their ongoing goalkeeping issues.

Yorke’s comments came after current United keeper Andre Onana committed two costly errors and managed to save just one of 13 penalties in a frustrating EFL Cup defeat to fourth-tier Grimsby Town, adding to the pressure on manager Ruben Amorim, who is yet to record a win this season.

United had been linked with Martinez earlier this summer in what appeared to be a near-certain transfer.

However, the Argentina international now looks likely to remain at Aston Villa, after manager Unai Emery gave him the starting role against Brentford.

Speaking to Jackpot City Casino, Yorke shared his thoughts on Martinez, emphasizing the goalkeeper’s qualities and the potential impact a move to Manchester United could have had.

“Emi Martinez has a big personality, there’s no two ways about that. He’s won the World Cup, he’s one of the best at saving penalties, and he’s got character – he’s got everything. Ideally, I thought we were going to get him because at one stage it looked like he was dead certain to be going to United.

“He probably tried to force that move, but for some reason it didn’t materialise, which in my opinion is a bit of a disappointment. However, Villa is also a club that I’m very familiar with, so whether he stays at Villa, I think it’s a good move for him as well. But I’m sure United would love to have him.”
