The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says it has arrested 116 persons during a series of anti-drug operations carried out across the nation’s capital.

The raids, conducted by officers of the Command’s Anti-Narcotics Section between August 1 and August 21, 2025, were targeted at known black spots in several districts, including Asokoro, Kubwa, Gwarimpa, Jikwoyi, Utako, Life Camp, Zuba, Trademore, Mapape, Kurudu, and Karshi.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the operatives recovered substances suspected to be cannabis, hard drugs, and other illicit items during the exercise.

“Following diligent screening, 89 of the suspects were released, while the remaining offenders have been charged in court for offences ranging from public nuisance to unlawful possession of illicit drugs,” Adeh said in a statement on Thursday.

She added that the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao Adewale, commended the officers involved in the raids and urged residents to support ongoing efforts to rid the city of crime.

“The Commissioner reaffirms the Command’s commitment to ensuring a safe and drug-free capital city. He also appeals to residents to remain law-abiding, avoid hard drug use and trafficking, and support security operations in their communities,” Adeh said.

The police noted that the clampdown formed part of sustained efforts to disrupt criminal networks and improve public safety in the Federal Capital Territory.
