Nigerian singer and music executive, Naira Marley, has opened up about a series of questionable financial transactions involving the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, shedding new light on their troubled relationship prior to the singer’s death.
In a series of statements and videos circulating online, Naira Marley, who has long faced accusations of bullying and mistreatment from Mohbad’s supporters, stated that he was now ready to share his side of the story. Among his revelations was a recurring issue involving a bank account allegedly linked to Mohbad’s mother-in-law.
According to Naira Marley, Mohbad repeatedly instructed him to transfer funds into an account bearing the name Adesanya Justina Olajumoke—a name the Marlian Music boss said he eventually identified as belonging to the mother of Mohbad’s partner, Wunmi.
He provided specific details, stating, “On November 16, 2020, he sent me a message that he was at the hospital treating malaria. Those people saying he is scared of the hospital can see this. On Dec 21, 2020, Mohbad sent me an account with the name: Adesanya Justina Olajumoke. He said that was his new account where money should be paid into.”
Naira Marley recalled expressing concern over the name on the account, which did not match Mohbad’s or his biological mother’s. “I was like this is not your account, but anyway, I paid his money there,” he continued.
He also mentioned that the same account was sent to him on multiple occasions afterward, adding, “On Dec 30, 2020, he appreciated me after his one-year anniversary of being my artiste. On Dec 31, 2020, he sent me the same Olajumoke account to pay money into and he still insisted it was his account. On Jan 25, 2021, he sent me that same Olajumoke account and said it was his mum’s account.”
Naira Marley claimed that he knew the account didn’t belong to Mohbad’s biological mother, Abosede.
“I knew that wasn’t his mum’s name. It was Wunmi’s mother’s account. His mother’s name is Abosede. I was like what’s going on. I then called him over to my place and spoke to him,” he added.
Mohbad’s unexpected death in 2023 triggered widespread outcry and calls for justice, with many pointing fingers at Naira Marley and others once close to the singer.
