Nigerian-born Beninese striker, Razak Omotoyossi, has died at the age of 39, with the cause of his death yet to be disclosed.
Omotoyossi, who switched allegiance from his country of birth to represent Benin, became one of the most revered figures in the nation’s football history.
He earned 55 international appearances and scored 21 goals for the Squirrels, placing him among their all-time leading scorers.
His most iconic moment came during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when he struck all four goals in Benin’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Togo, finishing the campaign as joint top scorer alongside Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o.
On the club scene, Omotoyossi carved out a career across several continents. He enjoyed a standout spell in Sweden with Helsingborgs IF, where he featured in the UEFA Champions League, before moving on to French outfit FC Metz
His career path also included stints in Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia.
