Super Falcons star, Michelle Alozie, proved to be Houston Dash’s match-winner as her late strike sealed a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over NJ/NY Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League.
The clash at Sports Illustrated Stadium was interrupted by thunderstorms, forcing a suspension of more than two hours in the second half.
Despite the delay, the Dash (5-8-3) showed resilience, extending their unbeaten run to three games since the league’s six-week break.
Gotham struck first through Gonzalez Rodriguez in the 9th minute, putting the hosts under early pressure.
Houston found their lifeline in the second half when Gotham defender Emily Sonnett turned the ball into her own net, levelling the score and shifting momentum.
Alozie, introduced in the 84th minute for Allysha Chapman, made an instant impact. Deep into stoppage time, the Nigerian international unleashed a powerful effort in the 93rd minute that flew beyond the Gotham defence, handing the Dash all three points.
The goal was Alozie’s first for Houston since returning from Nigeria’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, where she also found the net in the semifinal against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
Known for her versatility across defence and attack, Alozie once again demonstrated her ability to deliver on the biggest stages, cementing her status as one of Houston’s key assets this season.
