Nigerian media personality and actress, Toke Makinwa, has announced that she is pregnant with her first child, describing the moment as the most significant chapter of her life.
The 40-year-old shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, expressing overwhelming gratitude to God and calling motherhood her “biggest project” yet.
“This is the highest calling ever,” she wrote. “God, You did this one. You completely changed my life and opened a door no one can shut. The timing is perfect — You make all things beautiful in Your time.”
Reflecting on her journey to this point, Makinwa said she once struggled to understand the delay but now sees the purpose in it.
“All that time, I thought You had forgotten me. Now I see You were preparing my heart for the greatest blessing. God is never late, and He can be trusted,” she said. “My healed pain will break someone else’s chain.”
The former radio host, who has worn “many hats” over the years, said this new role surpasses them all. “This victory is major. You get to see me as a mother, and I get to raise my own,” she wrote, adding, “My baby, I cannot wait to meet you. You’ve made me the happiest person on earth.”
Her announcement comes just weeks after her ex-husband, fitness entrepreneur Maje Ayida, spoke candidly about his struggles with depression following their widely publicised divorce in 2016. Speaking at a UK church in a video that trended online, Ayida revealed that the intense public scrutiny after their split left him overwhelmed with shame and forced him into isolation.
“I went into hiding,” Ayida recounted. “I stopped going to work, lost focus, and even the motivation to get out of bed. I felt everyone already had a certain opinion about me, and it made me withdraw completely.”
He said the depression lasted for a year, during which he battled insomnia and paranoia, convinced that people were talking about him whenever he stepped outside. “I was in a very dark space. I made the choice to get out of it, but it took research, accountability, and practical steps to recover,” he added.
Makinwa and Ayida married in 2014, but their union collapsed amid allegations of infidelity. The media buzz surrounding both their separation and subsequent legal battles was intense, making their personal lives a subject of public fascination.
