Lawal slams home-based S’Eagles’ disappointing CHAN exit

Former Nigerian international, Dimeji Lawal, has voiced his disappointment over the Home-Based Eagles’ performance following their exit from the 2024 African Nations Championship.

The team suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Sudan in their second group match on Tuesday.

Before that, Nigeria had already been defeated 1-0 by Senegal in their opening fixture.

Speaking to Completesports.com after the crushing loss to Sudan, Lawal questioned the players’ mentality during the game.

“I’m really disappointed that Nigeria will not progress beyond the group stages of the ongoing CHAN tournament.

“This should have been an opportunity for the players to prove a point to the Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle that they deserve to be in the main Eagles. But with this performance and against a Sudanese team, I doubt if they have done themselves a favour.

“They can only play for pride in their final group game against Congo.”
