The Coordinator of the Edo Special Security Squad, Ameloemen Noah, has warned individuals plotting to disrupt the polls to abandon their plans or face the consequences.

The warning is coming as the August 16, 2025 Senatorial and House of Representatives by-elections drawing closer.

According to The PUNCH, Noah, during an operation on Friday across Edo Central and Edo North Senatorial Districts, said the squad was intensifying efforts to flush out cult leaders and criminal elements who might undermine the elections.

In Edo Central, the security team combed strategic areas, including Ojuromi Modern Market in Uromi, as well as Ekpoma, Irrua, and surrounding communities. In Edo North, the squad visited Warake, Iyeki Road, Angle 90, and Auchi Polytechnic campus, where they met with the institution’s Chief Security Officer.

“We have credible intelligence that some cultists are mobilising to cause chaos during and after the by-elections. Let it be clear that our response will be decisive. This is not about politics; it is about protecting the people of Edo State,” Noah said. “Parents and guardians should caution their children not to allow themselves to be used by criminal-minded individuals. Anyone caught will face the full weight of the law.”

Noah assured that security agencies, in collaboration with the squad, would be fully mobilised to prevent disruptions, protect voters, and ensure offenders are prosecuted.

Addressing a viral social media claim of sporadic gunfire at Auchi Polytechnic’s main gate on August 6, 2025, Noah clarified that investigations revealed no such incident occurred.

“Upon our arrival and discussions with the school authorities, we confirmed there was no shooting. The campus was peaceful. We are aware that some cultists were arrested earlier by the police for attempting to disrupt students celebrating their graduation, and we are following up on that case,” he explained.

The Director of Public Relations at Auchi Polytechnic, Dr. Angela Egele, also dismissed the reports, stressing the institution’s zero-tolerance policy on cultism.

“There was no shooting in Auchi Polytechnic on August 6. The graduation was peaceful, without casualties or cult-related disturbances. The videos online are fabricated and do not reflect reality on our campus,” Egele said. “For years, we have maintained a cult-free environment, and we are committed to keeping it that way.”

She commended Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to security and pledged continued cooperation with the state government to maintain peace in Edo State.
