Dean Cain, best known for portraying Superman in the 1990s TV series Lois & Clark, ‘The New Adventures of Superman’, has announced plans to officially join United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In a recent interview, Cain, who is already a sworn law enforcement officer, revealed that he is in the process of being sworn in as an ICE agent.
“I’ll be sworn in as an ICE agent as soon as possible,” he said during an appearance on Fox News, following the release of a video in which he urged Americans to consider careers in ICE.
The video was part of a broader effort to support the agency’s latest recruitment push.
Cain, whose law enforcement background includes roles as a reserve police officer and deputy sheriff, said his involvement escalated after the video gained unexpected attention.
“Once the video aired and got a mention on the show, it just blew up. I’ve since spoken with ICE officials, and I’m joining the team,” he said.
ICE recently launched an aggressive hiring campaign, aiming to double its workforce by adding 10,000 new staffers, including deportation officers, legal experts, investigators, and immigration adjudicators.
The campaign comes amid heightened immigration enforcement under former President Donald Trump’s administration, which set an ambitious goal of deporting up to one million individuals annually.
To attract recruits, the agency is offering incentives such as signing bonuses of up to $50,000 and assistance with student loans.
Recruitment posters reminiscent of wartime propaganda have also been unveiled, featuring slogans like “America Needs You” and “Defend the Homeland,” alongside images of Trump, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, and other top officials.
ICE has reported a surge in interest, with more than 80,000 applications received within days of the announcement. Age restrictions for applicants have been lifted to broaden the pool.
Cain emphasized that his decision to join is rooted in a desire to serve the country. “We need people to step up, and I’m doing that. Hopefully, more former law enforcement officers will join as well so we can meet those targets and help safeguard the nation.”
Currently, ICE operates with about 20,000 personnel across 400 offices nationwide. With a massive $76 billion boost from a recently signed federal spending bill, making it the most heavily funded law enforcement agency in the country, the agency is poised to expand its operations dramatically in the coming months.
