Former Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Nigeria’s D’Tigress after their historic triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.

The Nigerian women’s basketball team cemented their dominance on the continent by defeating Mali 78–64 in the final, becoming the first team to win the championship five consecutive times.

The victory also marked their seventh overall AfroBasket crown and extended an incredible 29-game winning streak, which began in 2015 after a third-place finish in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Taking to his X account, Musa posted a brief but proud message: “Congratulations @DtigressNG.”

Just like in previous matches at the tournament, D’Tigress started slowly, but their resilience shone through.

With Mali applying pressure and matching them point for point, Nigeria headed into halftime level at 41–41.

Coach Rena Wakama’s halftime adjustments paid off, as the team came out with renewed energy in the second half.

Tournament MVP Amy Okonkwo delivered a standout performance, scoring 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Ezinne Kalu topped the scoring chart for Nigeria with 20 points, showcasing her leadership and offensive skill.

Despite a double-double effort from Mali’s Sika Koné, who tallied 16 points and 13 rebounds, the West African nation couldn’t stop the Nigerian juggernaut.

Since 2015, D’Tigress have reigned supreme in African women’s basketball, and with this latest title, they’ve etched their name deeper into the continent’s sporting history.
