Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has reaffirmed his government’s unwavering commitment to the security and welfare of National Youth Service Corps members posted to the state.
The governor made the assurance on Friday during the formal swearing-in of 940 corps members of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream I, held at the NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp, Government Science Technical College, Amada, in Akko Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Inuwa Ibrahim, the governor welcomed the corps members to what he described as the “Jewel in the Savannah,” assuring them of a peaceful and enabling environment for their service year.
“We guarantee a conducive working environment for your activities and programmes during your service year,” Yahaya said. “Let me assure you of our unwavering commitment to your welfare, security, and general well-being.”
He described Gombe as a “safe haven” and encouraged the new corps members to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead by integrating into their host communities and contributing meaningfully to the state’s socio-economic growth.
“As you serve in Gombe, I encourage you to be part of our developmental efforts and help in empowering the youth. Your predecessors left positive footprints, and it’s our collective responsibility to continue building on that legacy,” he added.
Governor Yahaya congratulated the corps members for completing their academic journey and joining the ranks of national service. He urged them to take the orientation programme seriously, noting that it lays the foundation for a successful service year.
“The orientation course is designed to introduce you to the objectives of the NYSC. I urge you to participate actively and take advantage of the teachings and training to develop your potential,” he said.
He also applauded the NYSC scheme for fostering national unity over the past five decades and commended partner agencies and stakeholders for their continuous support of the programme in the state.
